Premanand Bhatt is one of Gujarati literature’s great narrative poets, especially associated with the akhyan form. He retold Puranic and epic material in a vigorous, performable Gujarati that could move between devotion, domestic detail, humor, and pathos. Works such as Sudama Charit, Nalakhyan, and Okhaharan helped shape the long narrative tradition of Gujarati verse. His poetry matters not only as literature on the page, but as public storytelling meant to be heard.
