Premanand Bhatt is one of Gujarati literature’s great narrative poets, especially associated with the akhyan form. He retold Puranic and epic material in a vigorous, performable Gujarati that could move between devotion, domestic detail, humor, and pathos. Works such as Sudama Charit, Nalakhyan, and Okhaharan helped shape the long narrative tradition of Gujarati verse.
